Volgograd State Circus was built by the general contractor trust “Volgogradstroy” on a special project developed by the institute “Volgogradgrazhdanproekt”. The main architect of the project is the Honored Architect of the Russian Federation Ye.V. Dynkin. The building was opened in 1967. The Volgograd Circus building is an original architectural treasure. The auditorium accommodates 1840 seats, spacious vestibules and foyers, convenient viewing galleries, allowing viewers during the intermission to breathe fresh air – all this perfectly prepares for the perception of the circus performance. The very first director of the Volgograd Circus was the honored worker of the Russian Federation M.M. Psalti, who stood at the very origins of this circus and directed its design and construction. It is his efforts that the residents of Volgograd received as a gift this unique building. This was his second gift to Volgograd. The first was the opening of the circus tent in defeated Stalingrad during the war in 1943. For more than thirty years, here in the Volgograd State Circus, at different times the stars of the Soviet, and now Russian circus: I. Bugrimova, M. Rumyantsev, he also Karandash, T. and J. Durov, O. Popov, V. Tikhonov , V. and M. Zapashnye, E. and I. Kio and many other artists. The Volgograd Circus at various times has always hospitably received foreign artists from the former republic of Czechoslovakia, Romania, China, Hungary, Poland, Germany, Cuba, as well as circus troupes from different regions and republics. Volgograd Circus occupies a worthy place among the cultural institutions of Volgograd, circus is a large charitable work with disabled veterans of the Second World War, low-income families and orphans. Work is constantly carried out with soldiers of the Volgograd garrison. No festive city event is held without the participation of circus artists. During its activity the circus has served about 20 million spectators not only in the circus building, but also on other sites of the city ofVolgograd and its region. A children’s and youth studio of circus art has also opened its doors in the Volgograd Circus building.
