The Nizhny Novgorod Circus is one of the oldest in Russia. Traditions of circus art in Nizhny Novgorod go back centuries. In historical sources, one can find references to circus lizards, grandfathers-barkers, stray acrobats, guide bears and other initiators of circus art. At the fair in Nizhny Novgorod always enjoyed the success of the performances that were given in the buffoons. In the summer of 1879, the brothers Peter and Akim Nikitin arrived in Nizhny Novgorod. They got permission to start building a booth. A few years later, in 1883, the Nikitins built a wooden circus building.
